Why are there no publicly accessible documents showing what they have planned for this nature based tourism? Where are the plans?
All recent comments on applications from Whitsunday Regional Council, QLD
Dear Whitsunday Council,
In regards to the road extension and development on Berryhillroad. As I'm aware, the completion of the Entire subdivision is of 8 rural lots. This was approved.
The possibility of this being further cut down in size does sound alarm bells and high level of concerns.
Other than greed of all involved,
the current street dwellers have purchased here for a reason, knowing of the development of further future blocks of similar rural size.
It seams alot might be taking place behind closed doors.
Any decision to change development size impacts on -
Safety issues
Increased traffic
Road maintenance
Noise pollution
Higher population
Septic run off to name a few.
It would be a huge kick to the guts to the residents.
This should be looked at closely. I hope surrounding dwellers are considered and have some say in new possible approvals.
Kind Regards.
This type of subdivision is a slow drift to failure. This area was developed into acerage living (by the person subdividing this land) and if we keep allowing these 1acres blocks to be accepted, next thing we know 1/2 acre blocks will become normal. To subdivide a beautiful, peaceful area of 3, 5, 7 acre blocks down to 1 acre is unacceptable. Our street has gone from a safe, quiet neighbourhood to a highway of trucks, exhaust brakes and oversized loads. Stop the money grab at others expense!
As a long term resident of this street that bought out here for the peace and quiet as there was a certain amount of large rural blocks at which we had to pay a high price for, I am gobsmacked as to why someone wants to ruin our street and turn it into suburbia to line their own pockets and move on and wreck our quiet rural street.
Dear Whitsunday Council, as a local resident of the street can we please have more info on the re-zoning of new submission/application
The first submission was ok with large rural blocks. The 2nd submission now looks like smaller blocks is this correct? !! This means our special peaceful little rural street will now have the double amount of blocks & people? Lot 23 will be now built out against the fence line.

As a resident of this street I do not agree to turning our beautiful rural street into suburbia, all the properties in the area are large rural blocks and this would completely destroy it ! Why does every other plan of development we get to have our say but we have herd nothing of this I have spoken to every other property own in our street and they do NOT agree to this !
Please consider what this we'll do to our beautiful quiet street when allowing such a development to go ahead .
Kind regards

Hi are we able to have exact location of this application please for residents living in this area.
Hello. I’m keen to hear about councils plans for maximising nos of rental properties per street. With thx
I’m glad to see short stay accommodation applications down by Cannonvale Beach. Personally and as of a resident of the area I would love to see tourists experience this hidden gem.
Being within a walking catchment is an added bonus.
I think we have enough AIR BNBs in this area.....too bad if you were looking for a long term rental....but I doubt this council would be concerned.
I was under the impression that council was rejecting all future applications for air bnb's until the permanent population of Hydeaway Bay had increased.
Hi, Have you got a map showing where this lot is located along Dunning Road. Thank you
I would like to say that there is a motel accross the road and the bnb is located in a turning circle which is already over utilised with traffic and cars parking in the the turning circle. The garbage truck has issues already with cars parked in the turning circle. There is a marina being built which has planned hotel for short term accomodation. Other bnb in shute harbour have closed due to Shute being so far from town.
My objections for such a large development next to my home are as follows
-Significant loss of value to my property and existing properties near by
-Increased traffic on an already poor-quality road
-Danger to public e.g. dog walkers, runners and horse riders from increase of traffic as there is no footpath om Sugarloaf road
-The amount of noise complaints the council will receive. All neighboring properties have buggies and dirt bikes which are loud. Guaranteed you put 11 houses there these people will complain about the noise
-Pollution to my bore water. Having 20 more septic tanks within 200m of my bore will surely contaminate my water supply which I reply on in the second half of the year for drinking water when my rain water tanks have run out
-If it was 4 acre blocks I would not object at all, I would love other people to move here and experience the lifestyle we have on small acreage blocks. But building a small housing estate out here in a rural area is just out of order.
The developer Mr Currey has a court list as long as my arm, he does not care about anyone but himself and making money at other people's expense. Is he the kind of person we want to attract to this area? If this planned development goes ahead then it will just prove that WRC puts Sydney property developers' money before its residents, the people you are employed to stand up for !
I have been unable to find a copy of the Application on the Web site.
Can i see a copy at your Shop 23 Whitsunday Plaza, Cannonvale, ?
I am concerned that the change of use refers to Siting Variation-Height.
There a strict covenants with regard to the Max Height of any dwelling on The Beacons Rd.
Please advise with regard to the proposed Height Variation on this application.
As I own the next door property (No31) i want to ensure the height will not breach the regulations and cause issue to us.
We live in Hideaway Bay and we have Air BNB's on both sides. When these places have occupancy it normally is a nightmare with music and loud behaviour. There are some that keep it in control but a majority don't.....there are a large number of Short term accomodation in Hideaway and most people have had enough of them. Council take no responsibility for noise problems in these places and tell us to ring the police....who in most cases, don't turn up because of the distance.
Please do not approve anymore short term accomodation as you will be prompting a slow exodus out of the area as it has been happening of late.
This present council surely could see that this development proposal -- 11 Warrain Street- Shute Harbour--is completely non compliant with the present low density residential guidelines as per council compliance. The plan as per building plan, is above the allowed height, plus it takes up most of the land area- without taking into consideration that this building will be blocking the views of neighbours, it will also block any natural breezes, it will not take into effect of the flight of birds early in the morning and late afternoon, as this building does not slope down the hillside- blocking their flight path.
This completely does not suit the nature of surrounding areas, plus it obviously has not taken into account on the impact it will have on the locals who for many years have been able to keep this part of the Whitsundays as a pristine area for both wild life and locals. If this gets approved it would be a free for all in the area, and quite frankly could build whatever they wish and no need to get building approvals in the future. This area would be ruined and why would visitors wish to come to this area, they would be visiting another gold coast. Obviously who ever would be responsible for this to be approved is not is touch with what other areas, such as Noosa, and Byron where tied guidelines need to be adhered to. Kindly do not pass this approval.
Cornelia Winters.
There are enough badly managed noisy bnb type places in Airlie we don’t need any more unruly drunks in the area that nobody looks out for
We are the property owners of 51 Airlie Crescent and we fully support this application for short term accommodation at 49 Airlie Cres.
The development will be a visual eyesore and block the view of many of the residential places behind it. I own a unit in The Boathouse and this structure will definitely impede my view, and detract from the value of the unit.
I am against this development due to it's height and unsightly design, and does not comply with the current building height code which has been in place for many years, including much input from the local residents. This building will be an eyesore and is purely for the satisfaction of a the marina, currently in receivership. There is currently sufficient accommodation for tourists visiting the Whitsundays, which includes the current number of ABnB's (approx 1000 by now and still growing). Carparking is insufficient in Airlie Beach as it its, and the BnB's in the suburbs are creating more traffic congestion - parking in local streets.
I believe the height of this proposed new development at the Cove/Port of Airlie could be lowered to the current height of 4 stories.
Dear Simon,
You continue to be missing intelligence.
The tree is not in the MCU.
Why don’t you go and find another hobby rather than spreading crap.
So now you are in concerned about trees- what about the ones you removed on your property?
I’m going to build a 100 meter tower in front of you place so I suggest that you sell now!
hi there.
I'm not apposed to the development as such.
however I am apposed to the removal of the big gum tree on the corner of Broadwater st and Shute Harbour rd.
This tree magnificent tree alot of shade, habitat for birds and a stunning entrance to the main street in my opinion.
I'm hoping there are no plans to disturb this tree.
thanks,
Simon
