Union House, Eggelston MacDonald 1960s - has potential heritage value, at least aesthetically, socially and historically as an obvious meeting place within the University during a period of dissent and growth: heritage listings for Melbourne University need urgent review! There may be part of the former Union House of c1937 included?

This is an outrageous proposal. This important building should be heritage-protected. It is FULL of social and cultural significance, and it's an important modernist/brutalist work. I am writing to oppose its demolition, and urge its protection - perhaps Melbourne University needs a specific heritage overlay to cover the numerous significant buildings, and the System Garden, which is also threatened by the University's development plans.

this is a wonderful building and must be preserved

This building is a favourite amongst mid-century modernism and brutalism fans and is one of the few remaining examples in the central and inner northern parts of Melbourne. As such we owe it to future generations to provide an example of clean, functional architecture. The University of Melbourne has always been at the forefront of creating some interesting and varied architectural pieces, surely the continued preservation of this brutalist example is worthy of their attention too?
