The original zoning for education was put in place over fifty years ago. Recommended standards have changed over that time. The site is far smaller than the current recommendation.
Messines Ridge and Pozieres Roads are through routes for significant morning and afternoon traffic. The projected final emrolment of 250 to 300, mostly from other parts of Brisbane will see at least 100 cars, morning and afternoon. The proposed drop-off/pick-up location in the grounds will not handle this mumber at the same time. Adjacent streets have parking restrictions, particularly berween 7.00 and 9.00 in the morning. This will undoubtedly cause problems. Council should carry out a suitable impact study.
From a NIMBY point of view, the proposed target student population will be mainly from other parts of the city. This means that the local area will get minimal advantage from the establishment of the proposed school and current schools in the area are not filled to capacity. So, if the proposal goes ahead, the local area will suffer the disadvantages with no meaningful advantages.
