Is this really an appropriate development for this quiet, peaceful and residential street? We lived in Short Street for a while and enjoyed the tranquility there. Aren’t there enough child care centres in this vicinity? There are quite a few already in nearby Jannali.

The corner on Short Street where the child care centre is proposed is already a dangerous blind corner for motorists and pedestrians. A Child care centre would only exacerbate the situation. Traffic in short street is already excessive especially around school drop off and pick up times with multiple pinch points and blind corners like at number 47 and down the hill where Short Street turns into Sage Avenue. Excessive speed is also a factor. I do not believe a child care centre would be appropriate for this location or be safe for the children or motorists in the area.
Thx
This corner is a blind and dangerous corner already.
Then you add school pick up and drop off into the equation plus additional drop off and pick up of young children for the day care.
The street will be so congested with cars.
It is already a very narrow street.
Wonder if the council will provide a traffic controller every day for all the extra cars ?
There are near misses with pedestrians and school children on a regular basis in this spot - its a blind corner and very congested due to the street parking in the area. How will drop off and pick up work on a blind corner that already faces these type of challenges? This doesnt feel like the right location for a business that will attract more traffic and create risks for children. There are already 3 childcare businesses in this suburb so maybe its not as essential as believed?
We live in Sixth ave and a child care centre was built on the corner of sixth and jannali cres.
Everyone was opposed to it because of the same reasons you have mentioned above but really you would not even know it’s there. It’s also lovely to see the parents around the area walking to drop off or collect their children.
The one MUST for the development is off street parking availability for STAFF and PARENT pick up/drop off. Make sure this is in the plan.
Although more child care spots are needed in our area, this location is unsuitable, namely due to it being downhill on a narrow bend, which makes safe entry/exit to/from the property difficult.
In addition, traffic congestion already occurs on weekdays from approx 7.30am-9.30am and 2.45pm-3.45pm at Short St & Georges River Rd, as well as Short St & Phillip St, due to residents driving to work and Oyster Bay Public School traffic.
Thanks for any consideration.
My concerns for this development is the safety to pedestrians as the road is narrow and there are no footpaths in short street for people to safely negotiate the corner. Short street has a primary school and an infants school in philip st the traffic at school drop off and pick up is a nightmare with all the cars parked and double parked. Short st is busy as loves Ave residents use it too.
This is a very dangerous location for a childcare centre to be positioned. The entire street narrows to a blind corner on a hill where the curb/guttering is rolled for parking half on and half off the street, with a single lane of traffic created. So many near misses with pedestrians and school children have been observed at this corner as there is no footpath nor space for one to be installed. The traffic report fails to mention the large yellow/black chevron arrows on the corner directing traffic around the blind corner and also preventing street parking. A simple review of this corner in school drop off times would highlight this issue. This proposal makes an already dangerous corner significantly more so.
A most unsuitable proposed "Child Care Centre" redevelopment at 47 Short Street Oyster Bay adjoining a blind corner at 1 Short Street Oyster Bay....It's a 90 degree blind corner with limited visibility around the corner, no footpath and primary students and pedestrians walking on the road. There's been several accidents at this corner and numerous close calls as drivers cut the corner short. The last thing that's needed there is more traffic and proposed 6 car spaces.
Besides the fact that it is an obvious blind corner and poses a risk to motorists and pedestrians alike (many being young children) are you considering the already existing traffic that uses this street? The street already is used by all residents from not only Short street, Loves Ave and those that come from Carvers road not to mention the additional usage from the two public school sites in Phillip Street, the Civic centre based directly across the road from the proposed site and the residents that already park in Short street and use the lane way as passage to homes on Carvers. With a number of already existing childcare services close by (that are not even at capacity- confirmed vacancies today at a number of services within 1.5km of this site) why is another childcare service needed in the area? Please don’t continue to make the same mistakes you have made in other suburbs of our Shire.
