I have recently viewed the new unit building built on Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove and find it disturbing that it has no gardens like all the other buildings in the street. It is the first building built in a long time.
I appeal to Council to ensure no more developments are allowed to be built with no real gardens. A few small planter boxes are not gardens.
Gardens and trees are an integral part of Palm Cove and must be central to all developments and I’m shocked to see the wholesale removal of trees in so many new areas in Cairns.
Whilst I have not viewed the detailed plans please consider my thoughts on all new developments in Palm Cove.

Thanking you

Please do not allow this application to be approved in it's current state. This building is effectively 6 storeys, 2 storeys above the current limit. The facade looks so industrial and out of place for the area. The photos of the road scape in the proposal are misleading as there has already been extensive vegetation clearing on the IGA site across the road. There will be minimal screening of the building as you look up Veivers Rd towards Cook Highway.

This planning application is again “pushing the limits” on height, while I understand 4 stories is a guide for development this application includes a roof top pool and fencing do essentially it’s 6 stories. There has also been significant clearing of trees directly opposite for the IGA meaning the character and street scape is significantly impacted. The whole point of palm cove is the tropical beachside vibe, combining nature and gentle commercial development. Industrial style high rise and concrete don’t fit the profile or desires of residents or visitors. I urge you to reject this application and seek a more appropriate design for the site. I note also the significant number of available ready cleared and vacant sites already left for development, including the massive block between allamanda and seatemple (triton st) while theses remain cannot further clearing and development be deferred?

I cannot support this development . Especially given that it is next door to the IGA that recently destroyed important flora and fauna to the area . This new project only exponentially exasperates and highlights the devastation IGA has brought to our vegetation and landscape. Is Palm Cove not an area of natural beauty that locals love and tourists gravitate too from Australia and abroad ? Does it not stand on its own on the east coast for its truly tropical village feel ? Has it not stood the test of time and is still admired as elegant and sophisticated? . On this basis , does it need to change and what degree is acceptable. Palm cove is one of those places that embeds in peoples memories long after they leave because of its uniqueness.
How many buildings like this will it take to change this feeling 1, 2 …. Where does this end and should this be allowed ?
What are your plans as council to retain what makes Palm Cove special , as is your responsibility and what we entrust you with . I am sure you are as proud of this area as we are and look forward to seeing your proposal on how you intend on retaining its beauty . Please post the link to the areas environmental plan to this site for all of us to see, so we can be clear on your mandate , regards Vicki

This development should NOT go ahead, once this is allowed there will be more and more. The plan does not suit the Palm Cove Village , no gardens and a ugly look. If you want Pam Cove to go like Gold and Sunshine coast you are heading in the right direction!! Please respect the environment and choose a design plan that blends in with the Natural Area.
Once you allow a higher building to proceed then that will happen everywhere in Palm Cove. I appeal to council to reconsider this project.

I have reviewed the application at 17 Veivers rd Palm Cove.
I wish to raise our personal concerns that this development neither meets the planning codes for Palm Cove or the style and feel of our green and laid back suburb.
While the building itself is nice it is not suited to this location and would fit much better in Cairns city where here are many buildings of similar size and style.
We are also concerned about the effects such a high density building will have on an area already constrained by carparks etc.
While we are very supportive of development, it needs to be calculated and suited to the area in which it sits. We do not live in the Gold Coast.
Kind regards Seb

This is very concerning and far too large and high for the area. I don't know of any other buildings this high in Palm Cove. it is a blight on the lovely tropical location in a high profile street.
The proposed IGA opposite is bad enough. This is an assault of the Palm Cove Village
