I have two issues to raise
1. I would like some consideration of traffic congestion in Innes St (which is actually a narrow lane behind the proposed development), it would seem more appropriate to require access to the Child Care Centre From Great North Road and exit via Innes St, a one-way arrangement, to avoid congestion in Innes St, particularly because there are usually several residents’ cars parked in Innes St leaving room for only one vehicle to get around them.
2. Pedestrian safety. As a resident of Kerin Avenue I am daily aware of the dangers of crossing Great North Road, and the distance to the nearest signalled pedestrian crossing at the intersection with Lyons Road. Further, this stretch of road seems to encourage rapid acceleration by northbound vehicles, who are often travelling at high speed by the time they pass my house, and even higher speeds by the time they reach the development location. The raised pedestrian crossing at Halleys St approximately 200 metres to the north on Great North Road has been very successful in slowing vehicles on Great North Road and I suggest a similar installation be considered adjacent to the proposed development. This will have the dual benefit of providing a safe crossing for parents/carers dropping off and picking up their children on foot, and will make Great North Road a safer road in general.
Additionally, consideration could be given to a pedestrian crossing on Kerin avenue where it meets Great North Road. Every morning and afternoon I am aware of the danger to pedestrians crossing Kerin avenue, due to cars turning from great North Road into Kerin Avenue from both directions, often at high speed. With the presence of the prooosed child care centre, this danger will be exacerbated unless there is some form of crossing and/or warning signage installed.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide this input.
