As a resident of Edgewater, I object to a liquor bottle shop. The Edgewater area is child friendly and quite relaxed. We dont welcome trouble and noise disturbances in Edgewater. We set a great example all ages to use the bike paths, parks and river for fitness and outdoor activity. The river is quiet and singles and families enjoy outdoor activities by the river daily. A bottle shop in the area will promote drunken behaviour in Edgewater and by the river. Residents will be disturbed by loud cars and violent behaviour. We dont need these disturbances. The Edgwater Medical Clinic is located in the same area where the bottle shop plans to open. There won't be any parking available for those who are unwell. Please reconsider this proposal and keep Edgewater safe and friendly without any disturbances.

I’m writing to object to the liquor plan/licence for Shop 4/32-34 Edgewater Boulevard, Maribyrnong, being an application to sell liquor off premises from 10am to 11pm.
My objections are as follows:-

1. Edgewater is a housing estate accommodating families. Residents’ properties are within 50m of the shopping strip and the proposed location for the bottle shop.

A bottle shop is not an appropriate mix with residential housing and families.

Further, the proposed business hours for sale of liquor off premises between 10am and 11pm is not appropriate for a site within a housing estate, particularly on a main route that sees children walking past the proposed site daily to travel to/from school.

2. Edgewater’s heritage shopping strip has limited car parking spaces. It is at near capacity most days, and parking demand exceeds capacity during peak use periods.

The parking demands for both a restaurant (40 patrons), and a bottle shop, cannot be supported by the limited parking allocated to this site.

One business should not receive benefit of parking above all others.

Overflow visitor parking demand to the shopping strip falls to local residential streets.
The local residential streets are at capacity and cannot accommodate additional visitor parking demands.

3. Residents who reside in the local streets surrounding Edgewater’s shopping strip are being subjected to non-resident bad behaviour, including:
- urinating in the streets
- yelling / arguing / fighting
- drag racing
- late night noise disturbance

The above can be verified by Footscray Police records.

The sale of alcohol off premises to 11pm will only add to these problems for local residents.

4. Edgewater’s cafes and restaurants are frequented by families. Bottle shops attract a different type of clientele. There will be no separation between the proposed bottle shop and Edgewater’s family spaces.

The two uses are not an appropriate mix.

5. The area is already well serviced by Powell Hotel bottle shop and Aldi Supermarket.
A bottle shop with sale of alcohol off premises between 10am to 11pm daily will not contribute positively to quality of life for local Edgewater residents.

I respectfully ask that you reject this application for sale of alcohol off premises, and including the proposed business hours for sale of alcohol off premises.
