Hi
Personally I think it will be detrimental to the Mount Evelyn area in general. Yes Mount Evelyn is growing, but we really do not need another Service Station in the area. The one we have has just got a make over, there is another two in Wandin, this list goes on. Mount Evelyn is not a huge suburn (town) and does not need two service stations. It will bring in more trucks to carry the fuel, food, etc to the store. Another large conglomerate company in our RURAL town.
The petrol station in Mt Evelyn at the moment is fairly cheap compared to others down off the mountain, bringing another service station will only bring prices up.
Do I need to mention it is near a PS and a child care centre. There have already been numerous near misses and literally a heart attack (which resulted in death), because of drivers speeding, not paying attention and/or both. We do not need to create a reason for more traffic.
If council only reject one planning permit this year, let it be this.
If you ask a local what they love about Mt Evelyn they would say the community spirit, the abundance of nature and its coffee. (go 5klms down the road to Lilydale and you don't get that community feeling)
Mount Evelyn is classed as a rural town, it would be great if we could keep it this way.
Stay off our little mountain of paradise.

A service station within 50 meters of a school is absolutely asking for not only the potential for multiple car crashes (between customers and parents trying to pick up children) BUT the potential for a pedestrian (particularly a child) being hit seems exponentially likely.
The area is also already a high traffic area with the clegg road intersection, 40km zones, school crossings and multiple childcare/ kindergardens. Why add more congestion in a small area?
This will be extremely detrimental to the whole community.
Petrol stations are meant to be in a comvienient and easily accessible spot - this is not the spot

My family and I whole heartedly oppose this construction and development of this site as a petrol station.

I would like to put in my objection to another petrol station. There is a primary school, a temple of harmony for the monks and child care situated next door. Students of mt Evelyn have chose this school as a community school which has a beautiful country setting. The infrastructure will not be able to cope with extra traffic .
Please reconsider this decision before it is too late.

We already have a perfectly good petrol station just up the road. I live across from this proposed location and strongly object to the noise, lights and pollution it will bring. It is also on top of a PS and is chaotic at school pick up time. Cars park in that area which would just push more issues to the other side of the road.

Mount Evelyn does not need another petrol station. The one there already serves our community well and is perfectly situated. There is rarely a wait to get petrol showing that another station is unnecessary.
The road and parking situation near Mount Evelyn Primary is already chaotic and dangerous during school times. I already feel the road and parking is desperately overdue for an upgrade to make it safer for our children and the school community. Putting a petrol station in would only make this worse.
Mount Evelyn has the reputation of a close community. I feel the addition of a mega-corporation petrol station is aginst the feel of community and against the spirit of Mount Evelyn.
Please leave our beautiful town free of an unnecessary, ugly and money-hungry corporation.

This is a terrible idea. The fact that it is even being considered is ridiculous.

My family and I have lived in Mount Evelyn for 15 years and never thought we needed another service station. Reading through the documentation (https://eplanning.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/Pages/XC.Track/SearchApplication.aspx?id=1145347) I can't see how this would add to the neighborhood and it doesn't seem like a good fit. Specifically with regard to the Traffic Report (https://eplanning.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/Common/Output/DataworksAccess.aspx?id=D9RnKzCr%252fh8%253d&ext=pdf&rend=3) I'm skeptical of the numbers given on pg. 7: "During the PM peak period, the data shows 359 vehicles travelling northbound and 398 vehicles travelling southbound." This data appears to come from an existing database, "Traffix Group has sourced existing traffic volume data from the Department of Transport’s (DoT) online Arcgis database" (p. 7). How current is this data, and how is it calculated?

I'm also concerned about how close this is to the existing primary school and wonder how future traffic predictions are taken into consideration.

I strongly oppose this planning permit. There is a Primary School 1 Kindergarten and Childcare Centre all within Meters of this proposed site. Traffic is horrendous both morning and afternoon. Mount Evelyn already has a perfectly adequate Service Station. Mount Evelyn is a bushfire prone area in one of the world’s most dangerous regions. Introducing more flammable dangers Is an absurd idea.

Our family strongly oppose to this BP being built so closely to Mount Evelyn primary school and our home .
This will also bring more traffic and we already have problems with cars going to fast past our children.
The service station in town is perfectly fine.

As Mt.Evelyn is Serviced by 3 petrol stations within 3.5 km from the town centre, There ate no requirement to increase that number.. If this proposal was to be allowed It would cause congestion for 3 to 4 hrs a day from the lights controlled intersection of Clegg rd and Monbulk rd. thru the school pickup slip lane and around the entry and exit lanes of the Planned proposal ..Alone this is good reason to avoid this Application ..It also appears ludicrous for safety issues to erect a service station with in 150 meters of a Primary School....As for Fuel prices which have no bearing on this proposal, The 2 fast fuels in Mt Eve and Wandin are owned by the same owner , And Phil ensures, Both are competitive which keeps fuel prices down at both ends ...Thanks,

A petrol station next to the school will negatively impact air quality, the safety of students walking to school and increase congestion at peak school times. Fuel stores in that location pose a safety threat to staff, students and the school environment. I am strongly opposed to this planned development of a petrol station this close to Mt Evelyn primary.

As a parent with a child at Mt evelyn ps I cant fathom my daughter being next to such a high fuel load in a dangerous fire prone area. How disgustingly irresponsible can planning be along with children walking to and from school.
The crossing on Monbulk road already deals with enough people running the keep clear zones and speeding through, we don't need an entire other lot of traffic trying to get in and out at these times.
Bloody madness to even consider it.
We'll be moving schools if this goes ahead. What a damned shame for my child.

Is the proposed use consistent with the current zoning? If not, then the development should be rejected on those grounds.
If the current zoning allows for for such a development at this location, Council (as I understand it) has the authority to change the zoning based on a variety of factors including impacts to amenity. In this case, I would request Council to exercise its authority and amend its zoning to prevent the development due to negative impacts to local amenity as per the list of objections already received by Council from others.

A petrol station 500 mts from another petrol station…and next to a school….? Seems silly, the traffic in the area is terrible there during school times as it is please don’t add more traffic and things to think about for that stretch of road.

Why would anyone in todays climate look to develop another service station???
We are moving on in the very near future to electric and away from carbon fuels and todays style and use of service stations will disappear (as they should)
Simply put their is no future for carbon fuel service stations
As a council you should be looking to the future and help to facilitate this new car powering technology and NOT allow any additional carbon fuel service stations especially with a primary school next door and the simple fact that our current fuel needs are already met with the current service station
I have noted the volume and speed of vehicles in the area and have also seen schoolchildren and others walking to and from the Mt Evelyn primary school ( which would be next door to this development) and if this service station is allowed these children will have to walk cross entry and an exit driveways every day with a large increase of traffic in and out. This ( as we all know children do not always concentrate on the road) is a recipe for disaster and would only be a matter of time before someone is badly injured or killed
Further to this how can any permit be even considered when 43 Monbulk Rd is a private residence and the current owners are not looking to sell anyway??

In my humble opinion, it would be better for the school if it had a ramp over the road to let children get to the other side rather than crossing the road. This may ease the congestion. We need a fresh fruit shop here & already have an abundance of takeaway outlets.
Alternatively, the site could be used for adequate school parking & pick up/drop off points.

To all of those who object to the service station and have sent their comments
The application has been modified but still for a service station which we all do not want nor need
You may contact me in regard to organising a more planned and inclusive objection on email “nicoff@gmail.com
We will need more support to stop this happening

The township of Mt Evelyn has a lovely well maintained and updated service station in a clear and open position for car users to access, this will maintain the communities need for fuel until we have transitioned to Electric cars by 2030/2040.
Putting a service station in the location chosen in this application creates an out of sight space just near a school, not sure this is a good location for that, especially if there will be fast food to entice students.

I would like to think we could put an EV charging station in Mt Evelyn rather than more petrol, though not sure this is the right place with the school and child care there.
The opposite side of the road with access from the service lane there would be better and more open to view, yet away from the children.

We do not need another petrol station in our town ,it is too close to mount evelyn primary school. The school crossing supervisors do not need any more stress that it will bring with more cars in the area .it is a stupid idea.

WAYNE MATTHEWS
Delivered to Yarra Ranges Shire Council

I cannot see any purpose to having another service station in an area that is already well populated with fuel stations and thus won’t need fuel
In 10 years this site will also need to be knocked down and fuel tanks removed as more than half the cars will be electric
And this one is planned to be close to the Mt Evelyn primary school
With current traffic congestion and school children having to cross the service station entry and exit driveways this is simply a recipe for disaster
Also consider the danger when developing this site when heavy vehicles ,cranes, etc will be moving in and out of the site again with children in close proximity
Please do not put parents and children at an even higher risk and reject this application now

There seems no need for another service station. As there are so many cafes here the convenience store is also unecessary.
A fruit & vegetable market would be welcomed.

Clare Ogilvie

I welcome this idea. It is a shame for those living on a main road and i can understand their objections, however another petrol station that side of town would be fantastic for those of us who have fast fuel alone on our daily commute. The competition between the two may mean prices benefit residents not to mention an increase in housing value with the added resources. The amount of litter and trash around and inside the primary school grounds, meditation centre and nearby street is bad as is and this will not add to this issue. Unless we all choose to stop having children, you can't argue against progress forever. I just hope the developers do their best to ensure greener choices in their project and limit disruption to those residents very close to the development.

Progress is inevitable.

As a resident of Mount Evelyn, I strongly oppose this. The amount of extra traffic this would generate would create a hazardous situation for the neighbouring primary school. Young children will be needlesssly exposed to an unnecessary danger - there are already too many near-misses. The traffic around the area is already horrendous at certain times of the day. It is also a heavily forested area, which is already prone to bushfires -- a petrol station would only add to the potential of fire. Extra traffic in the area would also decrease our ability to escape during a bushfire. We don't need another choke point.
This is most definitely not needed. We have numerous petrol stations in the area already.
I can guarantee that if this passes, there will be severe media backlash against the council and the individuals making the decision.
