I cant believe Lake macquarie council would even consider a service station in this location, we have lived in Alexander street since 1972 and the amount of traffic on Wilsons road is horrendous now, making entry and exit into ada street a real worry these days .a servo would slow down traffic even more. the street is not wide enough for cars to enter and exit a servo safely. drainage would be a further problem, not to mention proximity to houses.this project is completely unnecessary in this location.the bus stop ,and cars turning right to access the shopping village are also concerns to be considered. definitely not a progect to consider, and im sure there will be many objections to this

We do not need a service station in this area on that road. This will be situated behind my back fence. I will have lights and noise 24 hours. Smell of fuels. Traffic problems. The Wilson’s road is for single traffic only. There is already service stations at Warner’s bay road, windale servo, new shopping centre on the highway at Bennett’s green and a closed service station at Lake Macquarie fair. Also at Warner’s bay and Charlestown. We have been living here for 35 years and we do not need this . Me and my partner both have health problems and this will exasperate the situation. When were we going to be notified about this . Only foun out through internet and Facebook. This is not the place for a service station and there would have to be better places suitable.
I consider this a totally inappropriate location for such an entity. This short section of road from the lights on Warners Bay Road to the roundabout entry at Lake Macquarie Fair is already crowded with traffic. This part of Wilsons Road is a particularly dangerous section of road especially when vehicles turn from Warners Bay Road into either Ford or Ada Streets, it creates havoc with a bank up of traffic, which with this proposed development will only exacerbate the issue further. Then further along this section of road, there is access to Tango and Tomago Parade creating even more chaos for current traffic conditions in what is essentially a residential area.
Therefore, I object to this development in its’ entirety.
As residents of Alexander street for 9 years, we object to this development for 3 reasons:
1- inadequate info structure on Wilsons Road
The road not wide enough to be able to manage inbound/outbound traffic, including accommodating trucks delivering petrol
The traffic congestion already present at this intersection and all along wilsons road, from lights to round about, will be exacerbated by this development, causing traffic jams for residents trying to get out of the area, anyone passing through and customer visiting the Lake fair shopping centre
The bus stop across the road is used by school children; intensified traffic increases chances of personal injury and vehicle accidents.
2 - health risk from exposure to vehicle fumes and petrol fumes
the proposed proximity of this development to residential homes will expose the residents to dangerous level of chemical fumes
3 - the right of local residents to enjoy their homes within the council acceptable level of noise and pollution, must be taken into consideration with such a development plan. 24 hour functioning lights and noise is not acceptable so close to residential homes.
Lastly i would suggest for the developer to consider other options for this type of development such as: reusing the original petrol station area within the Lake Fair shopping centre car park or the old KFC/Little Caesar food shops area also within the mentioned car park. This should not be a problem since Lake Fair has extensively extended the car park spaces underground and on the other side of the centre.
Thank you for your consideration
The current application for a Service Station in Mount Hutton is not in the best interest for the neighbourhood.
My wife and I have been living in the area for over Twenty years with our family we live directly behind this development
We spend a lot of our time in the backyard with our grandchildren in the pool. This development will affect our lifestyle.
The development will drive our home prices down. The smell of fuel all day and night will be detrimental to our health. As it stands now we have a lot of trouble getting out of the street with a service station will only make this near impossible
We have at the moment 5 service stations within 3 kms and an unused one in Lake Macquarie Fair I don’t see the need for another one
Great location and a needed service in the area.
As residents of Alexander Street, Mount Hutton for over 25 years, we strongly oppose the proposed petrol station development at 10 – 14 Wilsons Road, for the following reasons: -
Traffic Congestion and Safety
Due to the volume of traffic on Wilsons Road, it is difficult to turn from Ada Street, onto Wilsons Road, in either direction.
During peak hour and on weekends, traffic can bank up on Wilsons Road, from the traffic lights at the Warners Bay Road intersection, to as far back as the roundabout entry/exit to Lake Macquarie Square, thereby rendering a right-hand turn from Ada Street onto Wilsons Road virtually impossible at these times. Similarly, it is not uncommon to see traffic seeking to enter Lake Macquarie Square, bank up from the roundabout entry/exit to as far back as Warners Bay Road. This is turn creates difficulty in turning left from Ada Street onto Wilsons Road.
Currently, left-hand turns and right-hand turns from Wilsons Road into Ada Street are potentially hazardous, due to the short distance between the traffic lights at the Warners Bay Road-Wilsons Road intersection and Ada Street. Most motorists turning from Warners Bay Road onto Wilsons Road are not expecting vehicles to be slowing to turn left into Ada Street within the first 50 metres of Wilsons Road. Similarly, motorists travelling on Wilsons Road toward the traffic lights are not expecting vehicles in front to be turning right into Ada Street. We have narrowly avoided being “rear-ended” in these situations many times.
The above scenarios, and general flow of traffic along Wilsons Road, will only be exacerbated by the existence of a petrol station on Wilsons Road, regardless of where vehicles enter and exit the petrol station. Wilsons Road, being one lane/carriageway in either direction, is clearly not wide enough to handle the increased traffic congestion a petrol station would create. This congestion of traffic will also affect vehicles at the traffic lights, turning from Warners Bay Road into Wilsons Road.
Vehicles entering/exiting Ford Avenue, Tango Street and Tomaga Parade, on the opposite side of Wilsons Road to the proposed petrol station also need to be considered.
We would question what traffic surveys have been conducted and if so, when, and at what times of the day, bearing in mind there was less traffic movement during the COVID-19 restriction period.
Pedestrian Safety
Many school children walk along the northern side footpath on Wilsons Road, to get to and from school, having to cross the entrance to Ada Street in the process. This is a commonly walked route by residents in general as well as a common dog-walking route.
The existence of a petrol station, with vehicles entering and exiting, will increase the safety risk to pedestrians.
Pedestrians cross Wilsons Road to attend the café and other businesses located on Wilsons Road, directly opposite the proposed petrol station development.
The proposed petrol station would require a relocation of the pedestrian refuge island, further along Wilsons Road toward the roundabout entrance to Lake Macquarie Square, on a section of Wilsons Road where vehicles are normally travelling at their fastest between the Warners Bay Road intersection lights and the roundabout. Many residents are elderly and at the best of times it is hazardous attempting to cross Wilsons Road using the pedestrian refuge island in its current location. A relocation of the traffic refuge island will make the crossing of Wilsons Road more hazardous for pedestrians.
Health Issues
In addition to the obvious petrol fumes released by a petrol station, there are properties near to the proposed petrol station development that have swimming pools.
Environmental Issues
We understand that the stormwater drains in the block where the proposed petrol station is located, lead to Scrubby Creek and beyond. What risks does a petrol station at this location pose to the environment and what assessments have been conducted?
Noise Issues
A 24-hour petrol station and fast-food outlet, with increased vehicle movement and increase in social, and potential unsocial, activity will impact on the quality of life of nearby residents.
Potential Increase in Crime
Service Stations trading late at night are a common target for theft, armed robbery etc. The proposed petrol station will bring an increased “crime-element” to the area.
Decrease in Property Values
The existence of a petrol station will undoubtedly diminish the value of nearby properties in the area.
