It is not appropriate for a bottle shop in this area. Two are already in use nearby.
The proposed shop is close to Little Howrah Beach, with parking limited.
This is a popular suburb not at,all suitable for the sale of liquor!

Surely we don’t need another bottle shop, there is 3 all very close by.
The grocer next door sells wine and with limited parking I don’t think this is necessary.
A coffee shop or similar which everyone could enjoy, would be a much better plan.

Let’s see. Thirsty Camel and 9/11 at the Shoreline Shopping Centre, Big Bargain in Clarence Street, Big Bargain at Howrah Gardens Shopping strip.
Conclusion?
A firm NO to this.
How many does this area need? Probably less than the above mentioned.
So Clarence Council should reject this application completely.
If the applicants want to get into the liquor sales business, they should buy out an existing one.
I’m not anti business, or anti alcohol, just saying there’s too many outlets in this area already.

To the Lord Mayor and Clarence City Councillors,
We are not in favour of the application to convert Shop 3, 76 Howrah Road into a Bottle Shop. Our reasoning is as follows:
1) There are already ample bottle shops in the Howrah area
2) From personal experience we can attest that parking for customers and deliveries is VERY limited at the shopping centre at 76 Howrah Road and the exit is not particularly safe, increasing the traffic flow would not improve the situation. Furthermore, the applicant suggests that approval of his application would lead to a reduction in hectic traffic flows in the Shoreline Shopping Centre. If this was to be the case, the small car parking area at 76 Howrah Road would be completely overwhelmed.
3) The sale of alcohol is very likely to adversely affect the sale of wines from the Howrah Point Store, reducing their profitability.
4) The opening of the bottle shop after opening hours of the other businesses and residences in the immediate vicinity is likely to cause troublesome traffic noise to those who live in the 20 immediate residences - namely 2A Hymettus Street (3 units), dwellings at 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 Hymettus Street, dwellings at 1,2 and 3 Howrah Point Court, plus 4 units at 4 Howrah Point Court, and the dwellings at 72 and 74 Howrah Road.

Another bottle shop is the last thing we need. This is not a good idea. Surely the ones in existence are suffice for purchasing alcohol.
The local shop next door already sells wine so this would be detrimental to their business.
Please do not approve this application it is completely unnecessary.
